The Phantom Tollbooth Review

Good Afternoon everyone!

Today I thought I would review for you one of my favorite children's books, The Phantom Tollbooth written by Norton Juster (and illustrated by Jules Fieffer). It's a charming tale about a young boy named Milo who is interested by simply nothing at all. Everything's a drag, and he thinks life to be boring - and most boring of all is learning. He comes home one day to find a strange box in his bedroom... And that's where the adventure begins.

Truth be told, I didn't read this book in my very early childhood; I believe I was eleven or twelve when I first discovered it. But honestly, this book takes you on a wondrous adventure no matter your age - I recently re-read it during work (it makes for a lovely book to read at my call center job, because I whisked right through it in no time at all and it wasn't too hard to pick back up again when I get on the line with someone). It's charming and heartwarming. One of my favorite characters Milo meets would have to be Tock, an unfortunate watch dog that goes "ticktickticktick" instead of "tocktocktocktock".

Not only are the characters lovable and fun, but the story itself will take you on an adventure through Digitopolis and Dictionopolis, through the Doldrums and back, on an adventure to save the princesses of Rhyme and Reason. I'm honestly surprised more children don't read it as part of their school curriculum growing up; it's not only a sweet tale, but it also illustrates the importance and the fun of learning.

Oh, and Slenderman makes a guest appearance (kidding! :3). I personally love this story, and think everyone should give it a go. If you're interested and want to take a peek, The NPR Book section has a preview here, and if you want to read the entire thing but aren't interested in buying, you can read the complete story (and enjoy the illustrations) here.

Enjoy!

Red Accessories!

Good afternoon everyone!

How are you doing today? It's still raining here in Minneapolis, but I'm still not complaining. I love it!

Today I decided to share with you some of my favorite red accessories. I was debating showing off my printed tights, but I believe I'll save that for a better day (and a better camera). Of course I have more than what I've shown you, but it's a good start!

This is one of my favorites! It's a mushroom ring I got from a seller in Poland (I can't recall her name/her site at the moment, but I'll do some digging and share the link if anyone is interested. C:) I plan to do a gothic lolita coord around this one day.

The owl earrings were made for me by Saara of Dreams of Starlit Ballads! She's a wonderful friend and fellow snail mail-er, and she makes the cutest jewelry too! C: The rest are sort of random, and don't take much explaining, I think!

Well, that's it for today! Cheers!

*Sorry for the quality of the pictures. Currently I'm limited to using my phone, and it isn't always the best. Thanks for understanding!

Outgoing Snail Mail!

Good afternoon everyone!

It's raining here in Minneapolis today, but I don't mind - I love the rain!

Today I'm sending a letter to my penpal Mary (she always sends me the most awesome things! I feel like my letters are so boring in comparison), sending mail to new friends on Sendsomething, and sending out some postcards for Postcrossing! The book is going to someone from Sendsomething, but it's got a sticker in it for Bookcrossing (I know, so many "crossings").

If you can't tell I love to send snail mail! I'm also really excited because my limit on Postcrossing was increased to 12 at a time - so far I've sent 151 postcards! :D

Now I'll probably play the DS game 999 for a bit (it's AWESOME, I might do a post about it eventually) or maybe finish watching Ouran High School Host Club. I've been watching it for years and now I'm finally at the end. @.@

Cheers!

Starting Over... Again?

Hey guys. It's been a long time again. Sorry! But I think I want to try this again, but to encompass all the things I love - including snail mail. So I'll try to do posts on snail mail, photography, lolita, fashion... And maybe even a little on me. How does that sound?

So Tawnya, a fellow lolita and I, are super excited to have tea at the Mad Hatter Tea Room sometime! Look at this lovely spread they have!
It's Tea Time Tuesday tomorrow! Come in for unlimited tea, a slice of Quiche or 1/2 Cafe Sandwich, Scone, & Petite Four, only $10. Reservations recommended, not required. We hope to see you tomorrow! BRAVE THE SNOW!
YUM. Doesn't that sound wonderful? I wish I had a car so I could go tomorrow! I'm sure Tawnya and I (and the other lolitas too!) will find a day to go. (:
Hello everyone! Long time no see, eh? Well, I think I'd like to come back, and focus on a passion of mine I've finally started to explore - lolita fashion. So, whatdaya say? Come along for the ride - it'll be fine! Here's a new picture, in case you were wondering.
